Don Shelton and his wife Robyn have lived in South Jordan since May of 1991—that’s 30 years, but who is counting.  They raised their 5 children here and are delighted to now have 12 grandchildren.  Don holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration.  He is also a Certified Financial Planner® professional (CFP®) and holds an Accredited Portfolio Management Advisor™ (APMA™) designation.  Don founded and was the lead advisor for Oquirrh Wealth Advisors, an independent financial advisory practice of Ameriprise Financial.  Don practiced personal financial planning for nearly 33 years and served as President and Chairman of the Utah Financial Planning Association during his career.  He recently retired from full time work.  The practice is headquartered here in South Jordan and has been for many years.  It continues under the leadership of Don’s son, Steve and his partner, Tyler.  (Two of the best financial planners in the business.)

Don has served on the City Council for many years, with two different Mayors and eight different Council Members.  He has appreciated working with each of them and learned important lessons on how to successfully lead at the Council Level.  As part of his role on the City Council Don has served as Council liaison to the South Jordan Arts Council, the South Jordan Senior Committee, and has also served on the Legislative Policy Committee and the Audit Committee.  Don also serves as President of the Western Growth Coalition (a group consisting of Westside Municipalities, School Districts, Salt Lake County, West side Chambers of Commerce, and interested business owners and residents).

When Don has time for recreation he heads to the great outdoors.  Don loves Alpine Skiing.  His favorite resort is Solitude, but don’t tell anyone—doesn’t want it to become too crowded.  He also enjoys a game of golf, usually at Glenmoor.  Don and Robyn love the Red Rock Country in Southern Utah and have hiked many of the slot canyons around the Escalante area.  They also love fishing and camping with their family.
